Flights of Fancy Pinhole Photography

The Flights of Fancy Pinhole Camera Kit is an ideal science kit for enquiring young minds. Children get to build a camera, then take and develop photos with it just as it was done when camera’s were first invented!

Slot the grooved squares of wood together to form a tight, light box (either glue or hold together with the elastic bands provided), attach the shutter cover to the front, then assemble the interior box from the pre-folded black card and insert, finally carefully create the pinhole (pin provided!)

Then comes the fun - load the light sensitive photographic paper into the camera in total darkness using only a red safety light for guidance which the kids can make by covering a torch with the piece of red cellophane included in the kit.

Next, choose a subject then take a photograph by opening the shutter keeping the box perfectly still for the allotted time. Now it is time to get back to the dark room to develop the picture using the developer and fixer fluids provided.

A fun science kit for older children that makes a great gift and may just inspire a life long love of photography!

Includes clear and concise instructions and a fascinating booklet on the history of photography. Suggested age 12 years plus; or adults can enjoy this as a joint project with younger children.

This was a beautifully prepared camera for taking pinhole photos. My daughter is doing a photography degree and usually makes her own but I bought this kit for Easter. The instructions were clear and easy to follow although she has had 3 years hands on photographic practice. The box was not light proof and the first pictures were fogged. She light proofed the edges of the box with black tape and used a black tape seal over the pinhole which she used for exposure rather than the flap provided. I think without these precautions and the fact that she used a totally light proof room I don't think the images would have been so good. Also we buy photographic paper in bulk and cut it down but do you offer packs of paper for the camera as you only get 7 prints per the kit. I think it is a lovely product which used with some know how gave good quality images.
