The development and manufacture of toys is subject to very strict rules such as the EU Toy Safety Directive July 2009.  Crafts4Kids online toy shop only sources products from reputable suppliers who adhere to these strict standards in the development and manufacture of their toys and products for children.  When it comes to helping you make your purchasing decision Crafts4Kids takes the approach that it is better to provide you with as much informative text about the product as possible within our Product Description and Product Features Pages and through Product Images to assist you when buying children’s toys and kids gifts online. 

In the area of age recommendations we do put a general age recommendation and state the manufacturer’s recommended age within our product text descriptions – we do feel however that you will understand the child you are buying for and that, with the exception of toys with small parts that are clearly not suitable for children under 3, your judgement is to be trusted on the level of skill and the stage of development the child you are buying for has reached.  Currently the majority of Crafts4Kids products are suitable above 3 years or above so rather than add ‘not suitable for under 3 years’ to each product we only use this where there is a genuine need to be extra careful due to small parts.

In general all toys that are recommended for ages 3 years and above are not suitable for under threes generally due to small parts or the complexity of the toy and rather than cover our site in warning icons customers should consider the age recommendations. Where a specific toy safety warning applies that needs to be highlighted this is included in the Crafts4Kids product text and/or through the use of icons; these warnings cover:

• Toys not suitable or intended for use by children under 36 months; for example those containing small parts
• Chemical toys not suitable for children under a certain age and intended for use under adult supervision; for example a science kit
• Activity toys meant only for domestic use; for example a play tent
• Functional toys to be used under the direct supervision of an adult; for example a sewing kit containing needles and pins
• Imitations of protective masks and helmets where the toy does not provide protection; for example a dressing up costume
• Games and kits that contain fragrances that may cause allergies; for example a girls cosmetic set
