Grandparent-Friendly Gift Ideas

My mother-in-law is always on the hunt for ‘different’ gifts for our children. Like most granny and grandads, they absolutely love spoiling their little ones rotten but I’m lucky they appreciate that we really don’t need any more plastic figures, teddy bears and pushchairs in our overflowing house.

My daughter (age 5) is easy to buy for – she would craft and create until the sun goes down – but the challenge is finding the gifts that really capture her attention, keep her focused and give her something that she will want to go back to. What’s really tricky is narrowing down my top three gifts for her as I know she would absolutely love pretty much all of the Craft4Kids products… but here we go:

Tonies - a fab audio system that puts the kids in control! Choose from popular stories and old favourites or make up your own - perfect for storytelling and singing fun.

Djeco Musical Boxes - Dream Of Unicorns - unicorns, rainbows, trinkets…need I say more? This one isn't necessarily about education but that doesn't matter as its just beautiful (and a little bit practical). Perfect for storing all of those bits and bobs that little girls seem to hoard.

Janod English Alphabet Magneti' Book - in my eyes this is the perfect little gift. Educational, compact and easy on the eye. For a little eager beaver learner like my daughter, this would provide hours of fun (no naughty words though please!).

So my son (age 8), is a different kettle of fish. A digital addict with a love for Lego, mainly building it but I often find him surrounded by his masterpieces and enjoying some good old-fashioned imaginative play. So it’s really great when I find a game or toy that takes him away from the TV and allows him to use a different part of his brain. We have discovered that board and card games are a really great option for him so I'm always on the hunt for something new and different (he loves monopoly… I can’t bear it!). So based on that, here are my top picks for some great pressie ideas that would get the grandparents dipping into their pockets…

Djeco Card Games - they really hit the spot - fun, quirky and something that all of the family can enjoy. These card games are also perfect to pack in your bag for emergency entertainment.

Djeco Zig and Go is a wooden construction toy where children can create a number of layouts with different actions and reactions - perfect for budding engineers and builders!

Djeco Malicious Magus Magic Set - my son isn't a big performer but give him a magic trick and he's in his element. This fantastic set provides hours of entertainment, initially learning the tricks and then showing them to anyone that he encounters. In the words of Paul Daniels (almost)…you’ll like this…quite a lot.

So, if you are a grandparent or know one that would love to have a little browse of what we have to offer and get ahead of the gift buying game, pop over to our website Crafts4Kids. And if you are lucky enough to live in the gorgeous Vale of Belvoir near Grantham, please head over to the Engine Yard where you will find our beautiful shop and lots of other treats such as Cocoa Amore, Margot & Plum and Jorge Artisan Foods.
